Movie Trailer Tuesdays - 5/5/15

Strangerland
Directed by Kim Farrant
Staring Nicole Kidman, Joseph Fiennes and Hugo Weaving
A family finds their dull life in a rural outback town rocked after their two teenage children disappear into the desert, sparking disturbing rumors of their past.

Dang! Australia produces some of the most interesting, gritty films. With this star studded cast, I believe this has the potential to be great. All three headlining actors have the talent to command a film. I look forward to seeing this when it hits theaters. It has yet to announce a release date though, which is unfortunate.

Irrational Man
Directed by Woody Allen
Starring Emma Stone, Joaquin Phoenix and Parker Posey
A tormented philosophy professor finds a will to live when he commits an existential act.

Honestly, I didn't think this looked all that great. Then I saw it was directed by Woody Allen and I became even less interested. I can't stand Woody Allen and I have yet to see a movie of his, acting or directing, that I didn't loathe. I honestly don't see what the appeal is in him. "Irrational Man" hits theaters July 24th, but I'll be watching something else.

The Last Witch Hunter
Directed by Breck Eisner
Starring Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie and Elijah Wood
The last remaining witch hunter battles against an uprising of witches in modern day New York.

I have a friend who summed this up perfectly. He said something along the lines of, "This is one of those movies that looks terrible, but I can't wait to see it". It does look terrible. But it looks fun as well. And it would be nice seeing Vin Diesel in a non Fast and Furious movie as well as Elijah Wood in something other than LOTR or where he plays a creepy sadistic killer. I look forward to this when it hits theaters October 23rd.

San Andreas
Directed by Brad Peyton
Starring Dwayne Johnson, Alexandra Daddario and Carla Gugino
In the aftermath of a massive earthquake in California, a rescue-chopper pilot makes a dangerous journey across the state in order to rescue his estranged daughter.

Whose ever idea it was to make a settlement on a fault line is a dumb ass. I will never understand why people choose to live in these kinds of places, then act surprised when a big catastrophe happens. All that being said, this looks ridiculous and fun. And that's all you really need from a movie with The Rock. "San Andreas" hits theaters May 29th.

Legend
Directed by Brian Helgeland
Starring Tom Hardy, EMily Browning and Teron Egerton
Identical twin gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray terrorize London during the 1950s and 1960s.

You gotta love Tom Hardy in intimidating roles! He is so good at commanding the screen and making you fear for his enemies life or cheer for their death. The added element of the 1950s and 60s should add some interesting performances. I;m not sure how much of this story is true, but it definitely looks to be enticing. Unfortunately, there is no American release date, but if you're in the UK on September 11th, check it out!

Movie Trailer Tuesdays - 4/28/15

Area 51
Directed by Oren Peli
Three young conspiracy theorists attempt to uncover the mysteries of Area 51, the government's secret location rumored to have hosted encounters with alien beings. What they find at this hidden facility exposes unimaginable secrets.

Ugh…. UGH….. UGGGGGGHHHHHH…. This trailer is filled with cheap gimmicks and bad acting. I like the concept, but the execution seems to be half-assed. Modern horror/thriller movies have gone down the toilet with the found footage format. "Area 51" hits theaters May 15th.

The Visit
Directed by M. Night Shyamalan
Starring Kathryn Hahn, Olivia DeJonge, Ed Oxenbould and Peter McRobbie
A single mother finds that things in her family's life go very wrong after her two young children visit their grandparents.

Confession time: I've got a soft spot for M. Night Shyamalan.  I have at least enjoyed all of his movies. Doesn't necessarily mean I loved them, but I did enjoy watching them. Though it is undisputed that this will not be as good or even close to "Unbreakable" or "The Sixth Sense", I am looking forward to this. "The Visit" hits theaters September 11th.

Mr. Holmes
Directed by Bill Condon
Starring Ian McKellen, Milo Parker, Laura Linney and Hattie Morahan
An aged, retired Sherlock Holmes looks back on his life, and grapples with an unsolved case involving a beautiful woman.

I was about to post the original trailer I had seen and tear it apart. It wasn't a very good trailer. But I found this one which is a huge improvement from the last. This one actually gets me excited for the movie, and having the song "Nero" by Two Steps from Hell is a plus! Seriously, check it out. It's beautiful. Now I'm actually looking forward to seeing this. And that, my friends, is the power of editing! "Mr. Homes" hits theaters July 17th.

Pitch Perfect 2
Directed by Elizabeth Banks
Starring Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow and Hailee Steinfeld
After a humiliating command performance at Lincoln Center, the Barden Bellas enter an international competition that no American group has never won in order to regain their status and right to perform.

This trailer made me laugh. A bit too much, actually. Having seen the first one, although I'm not crazy about it, it's actually making me look forward to this one. And worse comes to worst, I get to watch Anna Kendrick for two hours. And that's enough for me. "Pitch Perfect 2" hits theaters May 15th.

Black Mass
Directed by Scott Cooper
Starring Johnny Depp, Dakota Johnson, Benedict Cumberbatch and Joel Edgerton
The true story of Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf.

Damn, Johnny Depp! You scary! This just jumped up to my most anticipated fall release. My buddy had the chance to work on this film and that's just an added bonus to go see it! GO see Johnny Depp completely lose his mind on September 18th.

Movie Trailer Tuesday - 4/21/15

The Overnight
Directed by Patrick Brice
Starring Adam Scott, Jason Schwartzman, Taylor Schilling and Max Moritt
Alex, Emily, and their son, RJ, are new to Los Angeles. A chance meeting at the park introduces them to the mysterious Kurt, Charlotte, and Max. A family "playdate" becomes increasingly interesting as the night goes on.

… I'm not quite sure about what I just watched. So a couple new to California inadvertently befriends a porn star couple? Interesting. Could be good. Could be bad. We'll see when it hits theaters June 19th.

Fantastic 4
Directed by Josh Trank
Starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell
Four young scientists achieve superhuman abilities through a teleportation experiment gone haywire. They must now use these abilities to save the world from an uprising tyrant.

This certainly reveals more of the plot than the first one. You all know how I feel about super hero movies. I'll see them, but I won't get excited for them. I'm just glad to see Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan getting their recognition. "Fantastic 4" hits theaters August 7th.

Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser
Directed by Fred Wolf
Starring David Spade, Christopher Walken, Adam Beach and Patrick Warburton
When happy family man Joe Dirt finds himself transported to the recent past, he begins an epic journey to get back to his loved ones in the present.

Yup. They made a second one. It is what it is. Nothing needs to be said. "Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser" hits theaters July 16th.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Directed by Zak Snyder
Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Gal Gadot
Batman fights Superman… then eventually figure out a way to work together, I'm guessing.

There is no doubt in my mind that this movie will make money. But the quality is still up in the air. It really could go either way. But like I said for "Fantastic 4", I'm not bursting with anticipation. It's just another super hero movie that will be like all of the rest. See Batman fight Superman on March 25th, 2016.

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
Directed by J.J. Abrams
Starring Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Harison Ford and Carrie Fisher
It's "Star Wars" bitches!

Rather than use words, I'll just leave a link for my reaction.

Movie Trailer Tuesday - 4/14/15

Aloft
Directed by Claudia Llosa
Starring Jennifer Connelly, Cillian Murphy, Mélanie Laurent and Oona Chaplin
A struggling mother encounters the son she abandoned 20 years earlier.

I love this trailer. It plays like a beautiful montage with the poetic dialogue overlaying the incredibly soundtrack. While this movie definitely intrigues me, the ratings have been hit or miss. Maybe this will be one of those movies that half of the audience hates and the other half loves. "Aloft" does not have an expanded release date yet. But it does hit the Tribeca Film Festival on April 24th.

Survivor
Directed by James McTeigue
Starring Milla Jovovich, Pierce Brosnan, Emma Thompson and Dylan McDermott
A Foreign Service Officer in London tries to prevent a terrorist attack set to hit New York, but is forced to go on the run when she is framed for crimes she did not commit.

This just seems to be a standard action movie. It'll probably be fun, but without much substance. I am excited that "V for Vendetta" director, James McTeigue is taking the wheel with this though. It'll be a fun show at the movies. "Survivor" hits theaters May 29th.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
Directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon
Starring Olivia Cooke, Thomas Mann, RJ Cyler and Nick Offerman
A teenage filmmaker befriends a classmate with cancer and sets off to make a film for her.

My God this looks fantastic. It's like "Fault in Our Stars" but with normal kids rather than annoying pretentious teenagers. I feel the filmmaking aspect of it is going to bring a lot of nostalgia for me. I'm looking forward seeing this on June 12th.

Terminator Genisys
Directed by Alan Taylor
Starring Arnold Schwartzenegger, Jai Courtney, Emilia Clarke and Jason Clarke
After finding himself in a new time-line, Kyle Reese teams up with John Connor's mother Sarah and an aging terminator to try and stop the one thing that the future fears, "Judgement Day".

HOLY FRICKIN' SPOILER BATMAN! Well, they just got rid of any emotional impact of finding out that John Connor has been turned into a Terminator. What I don't understand is why did they feel the need to expand on what the plot was? It's Terminator! People will see it regardless of what the plot is. And now they ruined the shock of finding out what's going on. "Terminator Genisys" hits theaters July 1st.

Ant-Man
Directed by Peyton Reed
Starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Hayley Atwell
Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Ugh… All these movies are beginning to look exactly the same. They feel so formulaic. Don't get me wrong. I'll see it! But I won't be waiting for this one. It's just beginning to feel like I've seen the same movie 1,000 times. "Ant-Man" hits theaters July 17th.

Movie Trailer Tuesday - 4/7/15

Burying the Ex
Directed by Joe Dante
Starring Anton Yelchin, Ashley Greene, Alexandra Daddario and Oliver Cooper
A man regrets agreeing to have his overbearing girlfriend move in with him and she begins to change things without consulting him. Much to his surprise, slight dismay, yet overall satisfaction, she is killed when she is hit by a bus. During his grieving, he meets another woman who he quickly falls for, but is soon reminded of his past when his dead ex-girlfriend comes back from the dead as a zombie.

This seems like a major rip-off of "Life After Beth". It is the same exact concept with slight changes, so it can't even be called original. I'm not sure how to feel about this one. I like the cast and director. But to me, it looks like a much less inspired version of the Aubrey Plaza movie. We'll see. "Burying the Ex" has yet to receive a U.S. release date.

The Gift
Directed by Joel Edgerton
Starring Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall and Joel Edgerton
A husband and wife try to reinvigorate their relationship but their lives are threatened by a "friend" from the husband's past who holds a horrifying secret about him, sending their world into a tailspin.

What appears to be Joel Edgerton's passion project, this movie seems all too familiar. It seems like your standard guy-stalks-family kind of movie. I love Jason Bateman, but I'm not sure if he could pull off a straight drama. But he may surprise me. We'll find out when "The Gift" opens on July 31st.

The D Train
Directed by Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul
Starring Jack Black, James Marsden, Kathryn Hahn and Jeffrey Tambor
The head of a high school reunion committee travels to Los Angeles to track down the most popular guy from his graduating class and convince him to go to the reunion.

In my mind, the only thing that interests me in seeing this movie is Jack Black. It's been a while since I've seen him in anything and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a fan of his. But other than that, this trailer didn't make me laugh at all. This could go either way. "The D Train" (Which I can't tell if they're meaning for it to be an innuendo or not) opens May 8th.

Masterminds
Directed by Jared Hess
Starring Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis and Owen Wilson
A night guard at an armored car company in the Southern U.S. organizes one of the biggest bank heists in American history.

If Jared Hess is the master of anything, it is awkward characters with bad hair. This movie seems to be no exception. It has potential to be funny with the plot and the cast, but it could also be a disaster. I'm going to try to remain positive and say I think it will be good. I hope I'm not wrong. "Masterminds" hits theaters August 7th.

Straight Outta Compton
Directed by F. Gary Gray
Starring O'Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell and Aldis Hodge
The group NWA emerges from the streets of Compton, California in the mid-1980s and revolutionizes pop culture with their music and tales about life in the hood.

I'm not going to sit here and pretend that I know anything about NWA. The extent of my knowledge of them is Ice Cube's filmography and that they hate cops. The songs of theirs that I've heard I've enjoyed, but it's not exactly my scene. But I love F. Gary Gray's work and I will see anything he does. "Straight Outta Compton" comes out August 14th.

Bonus Trailer - Mad Max: Fury Road

Once again, Tuesday has failed me. I pride myself in the alliteration that is Trailer Tuesdays. However, it seems that all major film studios feel the same way, releasing trailers for upcoming blockbusters while giving out free tacos (probably), thus causing my trailer reviews released that very day to already be out of date.

But I say, "No more!". No longer will I be made a fool by showing last weeks trailers. I will stand up and say, "I'm mad as hell! And I'm not going to take it anymore!"

"Unless you have a job for me. In which case GIVE ME A JOB!"

When I saw yesterday's newly released second trailer for "Mad Max: Fury Road", I was excited. I believe whole heartedly that this will be a better, more fun movie than "Avengers 2". Yeah, I said it. What are you going to do about it?!

OH SHIT! DID YOU SEE THAT?!

Unlike "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" which is going the overplayed, dark and brooding root, this film is very obviously taking the we-don't-give-a-shit-and-just-want-to-have-fun-and-make-the-craziest-most-unbelievable-movie-you-ever-saw root. And I think they pulled it off.

This is not a face of someone who is having fun.

Filled with characters who's designs inspired an entire genre of movies, this movie is not afraid to go back to it's roots of the madness that is the apocalypse. Every character has a unique design and a crazy accessory on their costume.

Are those real teeth?

Including the gnarliest chastity belt that gives the medieval times a run for their money.

…. not worth it.

And a guy who totally can't see what he's shooting at.

Helen Keller is a better shot.

Seriously, take a look at these stills I grabbed from the trailer and tell me that this movie isn't going to make you lose your mind…

Wait… is that a guy playing guitar in the bottom left?

Yeah, I guess so...

OH, SHIT IT'S A FLAME THROWER!!!

This movie definitely does not care about reality. And that is what is going to make it great! It knows what it is and owns it to an extent where it goes above and beyond! I for one cannot wait for this movie. I think it has potential to be the best movie of the summer.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" opens on May 15th.

Movie Trailer Tuesdays - 3/31/15

Good Kill
Directed by Andrew Niccol
Starring Ethan Hawke, January Jones, Zoë Kravitz and Jake Abel
A family man begins to question the ethics of his job as a drone pilot.

Alright, Andrew Niccol, you have my attention. This definitely looks interesting. It's a different take on modern combat that we've seen briefly shown in movies and TV shows, but I personally have never seen a story focussed solely on a drone pilot. The few reviews I've read for this aren't Earth shattering, but they are mostly positive. We shall see on May 15th.

Maggie
Directed by Henry Hobson
Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Abigail Breslin, Joely Richardson and Laura Cayouette
A teenage girl in the Midwest becomes infected bu an outbreak of a disease that slowly turns the infected into cannibalistic zombies. During her transformation, her loving father stays by her side.

Damn, AHNULD! When did you become a single-tear actor? Damn, damn, DAMN! I cannot wait for this movie. Arnold Schwazenegger may not be the best actor, but he sure as hell makes fun movies. And he actually looks very good in this! I can't wait for this to come out May 8th.

True Story
Directed by Rupert Goold
Staring Jonah Hill, James Franco, Felicity Jones and Ethan Suplee
The relationship between journalist Michael Finkel and Christian Longo, an FBI Most Wanted List murderer, who for years lived outside the U.S. under Finkel's name.

I saw this trailer a few months ago and I immediately became transfixed by it. Jonah Hill is proving himself to be a more versatile actor than anyone could have predicted and it is very exciting to watch his career grow. James Franco always seems to be at his best playing the darker roles and Felicity Jones is just icing on the cake. It's a great ensemble and it looks like an incredible story. "True Story" hits theaters April 17th.

Southpaw
Directed by Antoine Fuqua
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, Rita Ora and Clare Foley
A boxer fights his way to the top, only to find that his life is falling apart around him.

First off, Jake Gyllenhaal looks terrifying in this. Second, there are a few issues with the plot (at least as shown in the trailer) that I can't look past. First, why is another person risking imprisonment to fire a gun at a boxer who is just in a fight with another boxer. Second, the court says that he needs to prove himself an able father, not an able boxer. So why is he trying so hard to become an able boxer? Perhaps these are better explained or make more sense in the full movie. Either way, I will be seeing this in theaters July 31st.

Spectre (007 Series)
Directed by Sam Mendes
Starring Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, Ralph Fiennes and Monica Bellucci
A cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

I would never call myself a Bond fan. In fact, up until the newest series with Daniel Craig, I always found them to be a bit campy. So when I say that I think Sam Mendes is the best director the 007 series ever had, know that I say that with little knowledge of the older Bond films and only say that as a personal preference. I think this looks great. In my mind, hero franchises such as this, Marvel and DC are and always have been about the villain. And Christoph Waltz was born to play villains. Bond is back at it on November 6th.

Movie Trailer Tuesdays - 3/24/15

Welcome back to Movie Trailer Tuesdays! This week, we bring back memories of trying to get the high score at the arcade so you could make your initials "A-S-S", I talk about my confusion of the story choice for the third installment of "Insidious", and we look at just how ridiculous "Mission: Impossible 5" looks. Here we go!

Pixels
Directed by Chris Columbus
Starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad
When aliens misinterpret video feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war, they attack Earth in the form of video games…

I'd be lying if I didn't say I think this looks awesome. It looks utterly ridiculous and filled with nostalgia. There is a 95% that this will be terrible, but screw it. I'll get excited for this one! I haven't been disappointed by a movie in a long time and I'm over due for one. "Pixels" hits theaters July 24th.

Man Up
Directed by Ben Palmer
Starring Lake Bell, Simon Pegg, Olivia Williams and Rory Kinnear
A woman who is mistaken for a stranger's blind date, goes along with the misunderstanding thinking it'd be harmless. But she finds herself caught up in the perfect relationship based on a lie.

If Simon Pegg made a movie in which he painted a room white with three coats over the span of an hour and a half, I would see it. He probably brings the most humanity to his style of comedy out of any actor I'm familiar with. So, I would see this for him alone. Lake Bell is just a plus. Even if she is doing a weird British accent (weird for her at least). "Man Up" will be at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 19th. No release date has been set for the U.S.

Insidious: Chapter 3
Directed by Leigh Whannell
Starring Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell
A prequel set before the haunting go the Lambet family that reveals how gifted psychic, Elise Rainier, reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead, in order to help a teenage girl who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.

This looks cool and all, but what happened to the family at the end of the second one? Where Specs and Tucker visit that hispanic family, and Elise Rainier (as a ghost) sees something in the shadows of the corner? That is what really intrigued me about a third installation. But now, they;re going back to before the first movie? I wanted the story they teased at the end of the last one. Oh, well… Maybe that'll be Chapter 4. "Insidious: Chapter 3" hits theaters June 5th.

Broken Horses
Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Starring Anton Yelchin, Chris Marquette, Vincent D'Onofrio and María Valverde
The bonds of Brotherhood, the laws of loyalty, and the futility of violence in the shadows of the US-Mexico border gang wars.

This definitely looks intriguing, but I can't say I'm impressed with the trailer. It doesn't help that it opens with James Cameron telling us to go see the movie. and I also feel it tells too much. But who knows. Perhaps this is just the tip of the iceberg. "Broken Horses" hits theaters April 10th.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie
Starring Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Alec Baldwin
Ethan and team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate - an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying IMF.

"Hey! I have an idea for a 'Mission: Impossible 5'"
"We can't make another, Tom! How are we gonna top having you swing from a rope on the Burj Khalifa? It's the tallest building in the world!"
"Well, what if I and holding onto a plane… while it's flying!"
That's how I imagine the pre-production meeting for this movie went. And I'm not mad. This movie looks fun as hell and I am looking forward to seeing it. "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" hits theaters July 31st.

Thanks for checking out this weeks trailers. Be sure to come back next week when we'll have more. In the mean time, check out some of my reviews. You might find a movie you have never heard of before.

Movie Trailer Tuesdays - 3/17/15

Happy St. Patrick's Day too all my non-Irish friends! To my Irish friends… happy Tuesday!

This week, I got some very exciting trailers for you. Let's get to it!

Inside Out
Directed by Peter Doctor and Ronaldo del Carmen
Starring Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black and Bill Hader
After a girl moves to a new home, her emotions are plunged into chaos fighting for control of her mind.

FINALLY! After years of sequels and one underwhelming stand-alone movie ("Brave"), PIXAR looks like they're back to their roots! While the majority of their sequels have been decent, they haven't made a truly great original film since 2009's "Up". I'm hoping this gets them back on track. "Inside Out" hits theaters June 19th.

Infinitely Polar Bear
Directed by Maya Forbes
Starring Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, Imogene Wolodarsky and Ashley Aufderheide
A manic-depressive mess of a father tries to win back his wife by attempting to take full responsibility of their two young, spirited daughters, who don't make the overwhelming task any easier.

This looks extremely tender and heartwarming. It looks to have that warm, independent feel that somehow makes it easier to connect to the film even in just a short trailer. Mark Ruffalo has been getting some great reviews regarding his performance in this and I am looking forward to seeing it. As of now, "Infinitely Polar Bear" does not have a non-festival release date. Perhaps they're holding off to make a push for award season next year.

Adult Beginners
Directed by Ross Katz
Starring Nick Kroll, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale and Joel McHale
A young, narcissistic entrepreneur crashes and burns on the eve of his company's big launch. With his entire life in total disarray, he leaves Manhattan to move in with his estranged, pregnant sister, brother-in-law and 3-year-old nephew in the suburbs - only to become their nanny.

At this point, the only reason I would see this is for Nick Kroll. It doesn't look too interesting to me, but I like the cast enough to give it a shot. We'll see how it goes when it is released on April 24th.

Cut Bank
Directed by Matt Shakman
Starring Liam Hemsworth, Teresa Palmer, Billy Bob Thornton and John Malkovich
A young man's life in unraveled after witnessing a murder that he filmed in his rural town of Cut Bank, Montana.

This definitely looks interesting. It looks like a mix between "No Country for Old Men" and " Fargo". With this star-studded cast, I'm sure it will be worth a look. I'm not sure if this will be amazing. But it will be released online April 5th, so you can check back for a review around that time. I'm sure I'll watch it.

Before I Wake
Directed by Mike Flanagan
Starring Kate Bosworth, Thomas Jane, Jacob Tremblay and Dash Mihok
When a couple takes in a foster child, they think all of their prayers have been met since losing their own son. But things take a turn for the worse when they discover that terrible things sometimes happen when the boy sleeps.

This could go either way. It looks interesting and seems to have a somewhat original premise from other films in the "demon-child" genre. But what worries me is the PG-13 rating. Its rare that a PG-13 horror movie ends up being good. But their are few exceptions. Will this be one? We'll find out when it opens nationwide on May 8th.

Thanks for checking out this weeks trailers. Be sure to come back next week when we'll have more. In the mean time, check out some of my reviews. You might find a movie you have never heard of before.

Movie Trailer Tuesdays - 3/10/15

As far as I'm concerned, if you talk during the trailers at the movies, you should be thrown in jail.

Pan
Directed by Joe Wright
Starring Levi Miller, Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara and Garrett Hedlund
The never before told (I think) story of how an orphan came to Neverland and discovered his destiny as the hero, Peter Pan.

This could go one of two ways. It could be mind-blowingly amazing and forever change the story of Peter Pan, or it could go the way of pretty much every other, much-too-late prequel and miss on every single level. I am actually hopeful for this one, despite my prerequisite skepticism of all Disney-esque movies (This was produced by Warner Brothers… Unless Disney owns them too!). Two things go through my find when watching this. Hugh Jackman looks like an energetic Nosferatu with hair, and Peter definitely does not adequately answer Blackbeard's question at the end of the trailer. "Pan" hits theaters July 24th.

Speaking of Disney...

Tomorrowland
Directed by Brad Bird
Starring Britt Robertson, George Clooney, Judy Greer and Kathrine Hahn
Bound by a shared destiny, a teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor embark on a mission to unearth the secrets of a place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory.

The teaser that was released a few months ago peaked my interest. But this killed any excitement I had in seeing it. It looks boring and generic, like it has nothing special to offer. Just another cash-grab for Disney. They already have the theme park built, so why not make the movie for it? I'm not hopeful for this one. "Tomorrowland" hits theaters May 22nd

Self/less
Directed by Tarsem Singh
Starring Matthew Goode, Ben Kingsley, Ryan Reynolds and Natalie Martinez
An extremely wealthy man, dying from cancer, undergoes a radical medical procedure that transfers his consciousness into the body of a healthy young man. But all is not as it seems when he starts to uncover the mystery of his new body's origin and the organization that will kill to protect it's cause.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. It looks interesting enough to see, but it also looks as though it will just be another mindless action movie that thinks it's more clever than it is. It could really go either way at this point, so we'll see. "Self/less" hits theaters July 31st.

The Forger
Directed by Philip Martin
Starring John Travolta, Tye Sheridan, Abigail Spencer and Christopher Plummer
A thief works with his father and his son to forge a painting by Monet and steal the original. Together they plan the heist of their lives.

As of now, on IMDB this movie has a 7.6/10. But on Rotten Tomatoes it has a 0%. I don't usually go off of websites for ratings for that reason. I think this movie has potential, and I am willing to give it a shot. Do I think it will be a 7.6/10? I don't think so. But we'll see. "The Forget" hits theaters April 24th.

No Escape
Directed by John Erick Dowdle
Starring Owen Wilson, Lake Bell, Pierce Brosnan and Sterling Jerins
In their new overseas home, an American family soon finds themselves caught in the middle of a coup, and they frantically look for a safe escape in an environment where foreigners are immediately being executed.

Owen Wilson as an action star? I'm not sure if I can buy that. The premise looks interesting, although I have grown tired of movies that feel like they're trying to make Americans xenophobic. That won't keep me from seeing this, though. Owen Wilson and Lake Bell being out of their elements and in an action thriller is enough reason for me to check this out. "No Escape" hits theaters September 2nd.

Movie Trailer Tuesdays 3/3/15

On this glorious Tuesday of winter bliss, it's a perfect day to stay inside, sit by the fire with some hot cocoa and check out this weeks trailers.

Ex Machina
Directed by Alex Garland
Starring Alicia Vikander, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac and Sonoya Mizuno
A young programmer is selected to participate in a breakthrough experiment in artificial intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a breathtaking female A.I.

I have been interested in this movie for quite some time. I am excited that it is finally coming out. With the awesome cast, along with the fact that it has a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes already, I believe this could be the Sci-fi thriller of the year. Look for it in limited release April 10th. This may be worth driving an hour to see.

The Cobbler
Directed by Thomas McCarthy
Starring Adam Sandler, Dan Stevens, Steve Bucemi and Dustin Hoffman
Max Simkin repairs shows in the same New York shop that his been in his family for generations. Disenchanted with his everyday life, he stumbles upon a magical heirloom that allows him to step into the lives of his customers and see the world in a new way.

This is the kind of movie that only Adam Sandler would take. While it doesn't look as bad as some of his previous work ("Jack and Jill"), I wouldn't go so far as to say it looks good. It looks watchable, but nothing more. I'm sure plenty of people will see it, myself included. Just don't go in expecting "Billy Madison" or even "The Waterboy". "The Cobbler" hits theaters March 13th.

While We're Young
Directed by Noah Baumbach
Starring Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts, Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried
A middle-aged couple running into their mid-life crisis befriend a couple in their 20s in an attempt to hold on to their youth.

Movies like this tend to go either way for me. I like the concept and I like the cast, but lately similar movies have been disappointing. I think Adam Driver and Ben Stiller will be awesome sharing the screen together, but only time will tell. "While We're Young" hits theaters March 27th.

Love & Mercy
Directed by Bill Pohlad
Starring Paul Dano, John Cusak, Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti
The life of reclusive Beach Boys song writer and musician Brian Wilson, from his success of his highly influential orchestral pop albums to his nervous breakdown and subsequent encounter with controversial therapist Dr. Eugene Landy.

I'm not a fan of the Beach Boys- like, at all. But there is something about biopics that draw me in. The only question standing between me not seeing this and me seeing this is "can I stand two hours of Beach Boys music?" I don't think I can, but I'll try. I love Paul Dano and John Cusak more than I hate the Beach Boys. "Love & Mercy" his theaters June 5th.

Jurassic World
Directed by Colin Trevorrow
Starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Judy Greer and Vincent D'Onofrio
Twenty-two years after the events of "Jurassic Park", Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World (THE NAME OF THE MOVIE), as originally envisioned by John Hammond. After 10 years of operation and visitor rates-- ah, who cares.... DINOSAURS!!!

I could sit here and dissect this trailer second by second, but in the end it's a movie I have been waiting 22 years for. Nothing will stop me from seeing this movie. It just looks so ridiculous! "Jurassic World" hits theaters June 12.

Tune in next Tuesday for more trailers! And remember to check out my reviews and share them with your friends. Or don't... that's fine too,

Movie Trailer Tuesdays 2/24/15

The Gunman
Directed by Pierre Morel
Starring Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, Idris Elba and Ray Winstone
A former Special Forces soldier and military contractor suffering from PTSD tries to reconnect with his long time love. But first, he must go on the run from London to Barcelona and across Europe in order to clear his name.

To me, this just looks like another "Taken". I'm not sure I feel about it. It's got great actors and it looks action packed. But the story seems tired. Perhaps this one will surprise me, but I'm not going to get excited about it. In theaters March 20th.

Kill Me Three Times
Directed by Kriv Stenders
Starring Simon Pegg, Teresa Palmer, Sullivan Stapleton and Alice Braga
Professional hit-man Charlie Wolfe finds himself in three tales of murder, blackmail and revenge after a botched contract assignment.

This one could go either way. On the one hand, I love Simon Pegg. On the other, all of the gags and jokes in the trailer have been done and overdone. I have faith that Pegg could bring his A-game and make this a decent movie, but only time will tell. In theaters April 10th.

Unfriended
Directed by Levan Gabriadze
Starring Matthew Bohrer, Courtney Halverson, Shelley Hennig and Will Peltz
A group of online chat room friends find themselves haunted by a mysterious, supernatural force using the account of their dead friend.

So this is it… The end of movies… This is an all new low. At least movies like "Paranormal Activity" and "The Blair Witch Project" actually try. This is just lazy. Not to mention, that shot of whats her face shooting herself, that is a technique that would only be used in bad movies. This just looks terrible. Don't get me wrong, I'll still see it. I see everything. Except the movie that shall not be named. This hits theaters April 17th.

In the Hear of the Sea
Directed by Ron Howard
Starring Chris Hemsworth, Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw and Brendan Gleeson
The story that inspired Herman Melville to write "Moby Dick", this movie tells the story of the Whale ship Essex. The ship was destroyed by sperm whale and stranded many of it's crew in the ocean. The crew, all in separate life boats, drifted apart. Some resulted to cannibalism, others found land. But they were call changed by the event.

Initially set to be released in March 13th, the release date has been pushed to December. This could either be good or bad. It already had a PG-13 rating, so unless they plan to re-edit it or do re-shoots, I don't think it's to have more time to complete it. What I'm hoping is that they pushed it back to give it a better chance in next years Award season. Meaning they think it's good enough to contend. I have been waiting for this movie since October, and while I'm upset it was pushed back, I'm hoping it was for the latter reason and we have a truly fantastic movie on our hands. In theaters December 11th.

Faults
Directed by Riley Stearns
Starring Leland Orser, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lance Reddick and Jon Gries
Claire is under the grip of a mysterious new cult called Faults. Desperate to be reunited with their daughter, Claire's parents recruit one of the world's foremost experts on mind control, Ansel Roth.

The trailer makes it seem like a dark comedy in the likes of the Coen Brothers (Yes, I stole that from one of the title cards). If that is the case, that is fantastic news. This looks very interesting and has a ton of great actors in it. It definitely seems like it's going to be weird, but what good is a movie if it isn't weird at all? This hits theaters March 6th.

Come back next week for more trailers!

Movie Trailer Tuesdays 2/17/15

What's so great about Tuesdays? I got two answers for you. Tacos and movie trailers. Each Tuesday, I'm going to take a look at some trailers and hopefully show you guys and gals some movies you might have interest in that you otherwise would have never heard of. I'll also be showing some bigger movie trailers as well, but I think we have all heard of "Jurassic World" by now.

Crimson Peak
Directed by Guillermo del Toro
Starring Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam and Mia Wasikowska
In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider.Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds… and remembers. (AW HELL NO!)

Guillermo del Toro always makes an interesting movie. While I'm not really a fan of horror movies, his I usually always enjoy. I am looking forward to this one. In theaters October 16th.

Poltergeist
Directed by Gil Kenan
Starring Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris and Saxon Sharbino
A reboot of the classic horror film from the 80s (A film in which a light bulb that was turned off exploded above my head while I was watching it alone… no joke), this movie is about a family who moves into a suburban home, only to discover that their home contains the portal to the ghost world, and several paranormal entities invade their humble abode…. Nope, nope nope NOPE!

The original franchise proved that kids are only cute up to a certain age. Then they just become awkward. At which point you want the ghosts to keep them, but now the ghosts are too afraid of them. Oh how the tables have turned. Sam Raimi (Producer) likes to ruin old horror movies, including his own "The Evil Dead", so we'll see how this turns out. In theaters July 24th.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Directed by Guy Ritchie
Starring Henry Cavill, Alicia Vikander, Armie Hammer and Hugh Grant
In the early 1960s, CIA agent Napoleon Solo and KGB operative Illya Kuryakin participate in a joint mission against a mysterious criminal organization, which is working to proliferate nuclear weapons.

Comedic spy movies are often a 50/50 rate of success. Sometimes they're terrible (I'm looking at you, "Mortdecai"! Bad "Mortdecai"!). Sometimes they're just really fun (Yay, "Kingsman"!). Knowing Guy Ritchie ("Snatch", "Sherlock Holmes"), I think it's safe to bet that this will end up in the latter category. I'm looking forward to seeing this in theaters on August 14th.

Hot Pursuit
Directed by Anne Fletcher
Starring Reese Witherspoon, Sofía Vergara, Michael Mosley and Jodi Lyn Brockton
An inept police officer must protect a drug dealer's widow from criminals and dirty cops.

I enjoyed not seeing this when it was called "Heat". But with this whole "trying to watch a movie a day" thing I'm doing, I might end up seeing this AND "Heat". Let's hope they both surprise me. In theaters May 8th.

The Age of Adeline
Directed by Lee Toland Kreiger
Starring Blake Lively, Harrison Ford, Amanda Crew, Michiel Huisman and Ellen Burstyn
A young woman, born at the turn of the 20th century, is rendered ageless after an accident. After years of a solitary life, she meets a man who might be worth losing her immortality.

Two things come to mind when I watch this. The first is "Oh, snap! They got Hugh Ross" (Narrator of "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"). And the second is this movie could go one of two ways. One, they take the Nicholas Sparks road and it just turns out God awful. And two, this becomes an existential movie that asks the question is life worth living if you never die? If it's the second one, this could be great. If it's the first, this movie has no hope.

That's all the trailers for today. Join in next Tuesday for more trailers. Take some time to read my other reviews. Comment or send me a message if you have any suggestions, whether they are movies or how to make this blog suck less.
